Using Technology in Your Recruiting

November 30 2013

realtrends recruit techRecruiting both new and experienced agents seems to be a top brokerage business strategy for 2014. Many of the old strategies and tools are still valid, but the use of technology to execute a dynamic recruiting plan has become vital.

In today's world, you have an unlimited amount of technology to help you create a funnel of potential candidates for your brokerage. Those technologies include social media, websites, email, drip campaigns and mobile.

No matter if you use a select few of these technology options or all of them, one important factor is that you must create a consistent message. Agents are looking for companies that can articulate a vision, demonstrate values and leadership, and show a culture of inclusiveness that will help them grow their businesses. Here are some ideas:

1. Social Media Recruiting

Social media is likely the first technology you embrace in that almost everyone has a Facebook page or is on social media in some way or another. Here are a few ideas you should consider:

  • Use talent communities. Talent communities are almost everywhere people gather, such as Twitter chat, LinkedIn discussion or a Facebook group. These talent groups are breeding grounds for an intelligent discussion, and you should be there talking about the real estate industry and sharing your advice.
  • Connect with passive candidates. These are top agents who are busy. You need to build a relationship with them via social media and, when they're ready to move from their current company, they'll listen to your counsel.
  • Share your positions. Use Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn to post your positions. Use them to share your company culture. Post pictures of your company outings, office fundraisers and give candidates a view into your unique culture.
  • Integrate social with other technologies. The benefit of social media being everywhere is that it's easy to integrate into all your technology.

2. Website Recruiting

Website recruiting is one way to use technology from which all real estate companies benefit. However, if you simply include a "Careers" tab on your website, then you probably aren't having much luck. Agents and potential candidates are smarter than that! You need to create a unique company recruiting website that engages candidates though interaction, simulators and information that challenges them to think about your company and the real estate industry.

3. Mobile Recruiting

  • Schedule candidate interviews via text. Make it easy for your Gen Y candidate by scheduling the details of an interview via text. Offer to send information concerning your interview (time, location, directions) via cell linking to a map.
  • Make applying and researching the company easy. Your brokerage company must be easily accessible via mobile. Candidates must be able to research your company via their mobile device.
  • Leverage video. One of the most popular mobile online activities is to view videos. Use video for testimonials that talk about your company culture or offer a peek into the "day in the life" of top agents in your firm.

The opportunity to use technology in your company recruiting effort is unlimited. It's time to make this part of your 2014 strategy.
