Five Apps to Help You Give Back on the Go

December 24 2013

homefinder give back appsIt's no secret that the holiday season is the busiest time of year – and the chaos is only magnified if you are in the process of buying or selling a home. If you are looking for time to give back in between home inspections and closing negotiations, below are five apps that make it easy to give back, while you're on the go. Added bonus: you will be thankful for the deductions come tax time!

1.) Give2Charity (Free, Android): Want to give back this year but don't have the time to volunteer in-person? Give2Charity makes giving a monetary donation hassle-free by connecting your credit card and donating directly to your charity of choice, with a few swipes of the app. When you donate, you earn reward points that you can later redeem for donations to selected charities.

2.) Budge Challenge (Free, iOS): Channel that competitive spirit with Budge Challenge, an app that lets you challenge your neighbors and friends to a friendly competition like a game of chess, running a marathon or even a cookie bake-off. Whoever loses makes a small monetary donation to the charity of their choice through the app's credit card reader.

3.) Charity Miles (Free, iOS/Android): Want to explore your new neighborhood or work off that Thanksgiving dinner? Charity Miles lets you earn money and raise awareness for charities by walking, running or biking. Choose a charity and as you exercise, the app will measure your distance and donate money from their $1 million donation pool that's funded by corporate sponsors.

4.) VolunteerMatch (Free, iOS): Looking to meet your new neighbors while doing a good deed? Search for open volunteer opportunities in your local area using VolunteerMatch, an app that places volunteers with different opportunities in the area. You can also share your volunteer opportunity with friends and family to create a group project.

5.) Instead (Free, iOS): The Instead app proposes that you replace one of your daily habits, like buying a morning latte, with a more cost-effective option, like brewing your coffee at home, and donating what you saved to your favorite charity. You can use this opportunity to save money, time and a few calories – all while giving back. A win-win!

This list of apps lets you take the season of giving into your own hands. Share with us how you like to give back during the holidays!
