Matterport Announces AI Capabilities that Will Turn Smartphones into 3D Capture Devices
Company's cloud-based image processing software will create 3D experiences derived from standard smartphone cameras SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 26, 2019 -- Matterport, the leading spatial data company focused on digitizing and indexing the built world, announced today its latest breakthrough, Matterport 3D Capture for Smartphones, which will turn consumer smartphones into 3D capture devices. This capability, which was demonstrated for the first time today at an invite-only event at San Francisco's most exclusive property – Residence 950 – will support iPhone and Android devices. The first iPhone version is expected to be available in beta by the end of the year. Matterport's visionary CEO RJ Pittman explained at the gathering of technology and business leaders that this new innovation is made possible by advancements in Cortex, Matterport's AI-powered image-processing technology. Cortex features three-dimensional intelligence that can understand objects, rooms and the detailed characteristics of any physical space. The technology is trained on Matterport's industry-leading dataset that is comprised of billions of 3D data points and can construct stunning 3D digital twins from two-dimensional images. "Matterport aims to achieve full camera and capture ubiquity that will allow us to digitize the entire built world," Pittman stated. "Creating a 3D solution compatible with smartphones is a huge step towards reaching that goal, allowing the broader community of billions of iPhone and Android users to access the capabilities of our technology." Pittman was joined at Thursday's event by real estate moguls and stars of Bravo TV's Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles, Josh and Matthew Altman. "Matterport's 3D technology is a game-changer for our business, especially for marketing elite homes like 950 Lombard Street – an exceptional property in one of San Francisco's most desirable neighborhoods," said Josh Altman. "Matterport's cutting-edge technology makes it possible for a potential luxury homebuyer – sipping coffee halfway across the globe – to experience this gorgeous home in a realistic and immersive way. This is a great way to attract busy and out-of-town buyers!" Pittman added: "The digital transformation of the built world will fundamentally change the way people interact with buildings and the physical world around them. Matterport's 3D capture is foundational to this transformation because our unique technology is creating the data layer on which businesses and individuals can interoperate across industries." In addition to unveiling 3D capture for smartphones, Matterport also announced a new spatial awareness functionality that enables users to interactively measure and share the dimensions of any space – including floor plans, doorways, windows and walls – automatically. This powerful feature strengthens the impact of Matterport 3D experiences across applications and industries, from helping prospective homebuyers know whether furniture will fit in a space, to making it easier for contractors to more accurately and efficiently document dimensions during the construction or renovation process. Matterport's new spatial data features were announced and demonstrated alongside planned updates to the company's flagship app and cloud services, which include: Android compatibility for the Matterport Capture app, enabling anyone with an Android device to scan a space when connected to a compatible camera. The announcement of a planned developer program and updated SDK, offering extended functionality and robust developer APIs. About Matterport Matterport is the leading spatial data company digitizing and indexing the built world. Big Data Will Play an Important Role in the Future of Real Estate and for Realtors®
WASHINGTON, November 11, 2014– Advances in mobile technology have the potential to radically change the ways consumers search for real estate online, according to a session at the 2014 REALTORS® Conference & Expo that peered into what can happen in the future regarding big data and real estate. At the session, National Association of Realtor®'s Managing Director of Data Analytics Todd Carpenter discussed how big data and mobile computing can be leveraged by brokers, agents and real estate portals to more effectively market homes to consumers. Attendees also gained insight into how evolving mobile technologies will allow consumers to assemble personal, intuitive real estate searches without the guidance of a web marketing portal. According to Carpenter, the Internet of Things, which is using and transferring data over networks through a device and without human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction, will transform consumers' experience of searching for real estate online. He shared big data examples, including mobile apps that are already revolutionizing the way individuals go about their day, such as tracking daily physical activity, navigating traffic in real-time and managing a home thermostat from afar. "A buyer could eventually ask an agent about how a home functions – such as how well it heats or the amount of electricity it uses during certain parts of the day – and receive an immediate answer with detailed graphics and analysis," said Carpenter. "That information may not be readily available to buyers today, but it's coming soon as more individuals use their smartphone to connect their home to the internet." Added Carpenter, "Everything from transportation to the healthcare industry are helping individuals make informed decisions about their lives based on data collected from their smartphone. These advances in mobile technology will make it easier for Realtors® to communicate valuable information to their clients during the home buying and selling process." Carpenter said IoT and predictive analytics are helping the real estate industry better understand transaction and market data to the benefit of the industry, agents and consumers. The amount of data collected will likely continue to increase and will be used more to predict buyer and seller behavior as well as trends in home preferences and neighborhoods. This includes highly-customized home searches that encompass factors such as proximity to work, public schools and restaurants. "Realtors® should educate themselves about big data and be knowledgeable of how it's being collected through mobile devices," said Carpenter. "Buyers will increasingly use their smartphone during the search process – often times before first talking to an agent. Realtors® who adapt and embrace big data will add considerable value to their relationship with clients." Last year NAR launched a new Predictive Analytics group that examines and analyzes member and customer trends from a variety of data sets to help the association's members make better business decisions and meet the needs of their clients. The National Association of Realtors®, "The Voice for Real Estate," is America's largest trade association, representing 1 million members involved in all aspects of the residential and commercial real estate industries.

What's Next for 'Check-In' Mobile Apps?
Ever heard of SCVNGR (pronounced Scavenger) or foursquare? A new wave of mobile technology known as 'Check-In' apps are growing in popularity. This week CNN blogger John Sutter met with the CEO of SCVNGR and wrote an interesting blog post about new 'Check-In' mobile applications. He made some interesting observations about SCVNGR, a mobile gaming application that targets the real estate industry, among others. "SCVNGR, which Seth Priebatsch helped create, is one of the latest apps to build on top of the idea of a "check-in," that emerging term some tech-savvy people use to describe the act of using a GPS-enabled smartphone to share their whereabouts with friends. Increasingly, app developers are using existing location-based social networks -- such as Foursquare, Gowalla and, most recently, Facebook Places -- to create games, challenges, city guides and dating services. It seems the "check-in" was just the beginning. SCVNGR, for example, announced its integration with Facebook Places on Friday. That means people can use that free Android and iPhone app to complete challenges similar to Priebatsch's origami experiment and share that information easily with friends on Facebook. People on SCVNGR (pronounced "scavenger") also will be able to see the locations of their friends who use Facebook Places.

Supra eKey Now Available on iPhone and iPod Touch
After months of anticipation, Supra released it's eKEY Basic for iPhone and iTouches everywhere. With eKEY software, real estate agents can use their iPhone or iTouch as their lockbox key. eKEY updates wirelessly so real estate professionals can do business anywhere. There are two service levels available: eKEY Basic which provides basic keybox functions. eKEY Professional (coming late this year)adds MLS data saved to your phone, links Google maps to the listings, and delivers showing details to your phone.   eKEY Basic Features: (device shown to the right) Wireless Updates and Alerts Obtain Listing Keys Keep track of all the agent's key boxes right from their phone Manage and Program all keyboxes Easily place and remove keyboxes from listings using a phone Change shackle codes Supra eKEY Adapter (device shown to the right) They have created a Supra iPhone Adapter which plugs into the 30 pin dock connector.  It adds Infrared to the iPhone.  It is designed to hang from a key chain when not in use.  When an agent is ready to show a house, they can just slide it out of its cover, and plug it into their iPhone. When will eKEY for iPhone be available? eKEY Basic for iPhone is available now!  eKEY Professional for iPhone will be available in December of 2010. Will the Supra iPhone Adapter require batteries?   No!  The Adapter gets its power from the iPhone, thus no batteries to change and it will never need to be charged.  It only uses power when a box is opened, thus it has very little impact on the iPhone's battery. Will eKEY for iPhone work with the eKEY Fob (the one that works with the BlackBerry)? The eKEY fob used for BlackBerry and Windows Mobile devices will not work with the iPhone.  It was necessary to design an accessory specifically for the iPhone.  They decided to create an adapter that would plug directly into the phone.  In this way the eKEY for iPhone is a fully integrated solution. How do I get eKEY for iPhone? eKEY for iPhone is issued just like the other eKEYs.  The Supra iPhone Adapter is available for purchase directly from Supra and from most Boards and MLSs.  After an agent has their adapter, they can download the software from the App Store, and get an eKEY serial number and authorization code from their Board or MLS.  Once the authorization code is entered into the software, they are ready to open lock boxes with their iPhone. Moving from DisplayKEY or ActiveKEY is a very simple process.  It will only take a few minutes at an agent's local Board or MLS (whoever issued their current key), and they will be opening lock boxes with their iPhone. What models of iPhones will be supported? eKEY for iPhone will run on all current models of iPhone (2G, 3G, 3Gs).  It will also run on the new iPhone 4.  Note that for 2G, 3G, and 3Gs devices, you must have iPhone OS 3.1.3 or above. How do I get the software on my iPhone? The eKEY for iPhone app is on Apple App Store.  The download is free.  While the software itself is downloaded free, there will be an ongoing monthly charge for the key service. Download it now to check out the demo mode. Is there a way to see how eKEY for iPhone works before I buy it? Yes.  There is a demo version of the software.  It is on the App Store and it will let you check out all the eKEY Basic features.  To start using it to open lock boxes an agent will just need to speak to his/her Board or MLS and get an authorization code (once the Supra eKEY Adapter is available). If you would like to learn more about Supra's eKEY for iPhone and iTouch, please click here. If you would like to view a demo of the eKEY software, please click here.
