DocuSign saves 60,000 Trees and 1 Million Square Feet of Rain Forest

Thanks to your help, DocuSign has processed more than a half billion pages of legally binding documents in seven years—this averages to more than 71 million documents each year!

According to the University of California's Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, the average tree is capable of producing 8,300 pages of paper. With this estimate, the DocuSign network has saved more than 60,000 trees. To put this into perspective, here's a few fun facts about what 60,000 trees translates to that may surprise you:

• A stack of pages more than 165,000 feet in height
• A straight line of pages more than 86,000 miles long (enough to wrap around the Earth's equator more than three times)
• Approximately $4,000,000 (before sales tax) in paper purchased from an office supply store
• More than $10,000,000 in printing cost at a retail printer
• More than $9,300,000,000 in shipping costs if those documents were overnighted to and from a signer

To celebrate our strides in reducing paper waste, DocuSign has partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation, a nonprofit and environmental education organization that's dedicated to planting, conserving trees, and planning for a more sustainable environment. Through this partnership, DocuSign and the Arbor Day Foundation will preserve one million square feet of rain forest.

"Our earth's tropical rain forests cover only two percent of the planet's surface yet are home to half of the earth's plant and animal species.
