DocuSign's newest technical evangelist, DeVaris Brown, previously served as a technical evangelist at Microsoft, covering academia in the midwest, with expertise in RIAs, mobile, and cloud computing. He was also responsible for automating large scale, high availability systems as a systems engineer with Microsoft Live Services.

DeVaris attended University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he conducted research in the areas of security, wireless networking, high performance computing, operating systems, pervasive computing, and evolutionary programming. Some of his projects have included optimizing collision detection algorithms for wireless networks, evaluating the opportunity costs of implementing secure operating systems, creating monitoring and compliance solutions for high performance computing, and using genetic algorithms to provide customized Web experiences.

So... what excites DeVaris about being DocuSign's Technical Evangelist?

The passion and intellect of the people who interviewed me drew me to the company. From the time I interviewed, I realized throughout the process that everyone had a deep understanding of the platform and they all were working towards a common goal of making sure DocuSign and its customers were successful. That passion I see from my coworkers and ecosystem will drive me to make sure I'm doing the best job I can to extend the quality of our future endeavors.

The other thing that excites me about being DocuSign's newest evangelist is opportunity. We can build a vibrant community of developers on our platform and work with others to find and fix bugs, suggest features, and discuss the power of our platform. So be on the lookout for upcoming developer initiatives.

DeVaris will work closely with DocuSign's developer community – what does he want to learn from our technical community?

My experience at Microsoft focused my knowledge on a specific platform. With DocuSign, I get to use other languages and platforms. By working closely with developers, I can learn how they utilize our platform in a variety of languages. I also want to learn how we can improve our documentation to ensure that when we leave our developers they can ramp up quickly using our examples.

Come meet DeVaris at the DocuSign Hackathon, at DocuSign's San Francisco offices at 111 Sutter Street, Suite 1000 – we'll be giving away $25,000 USD in prizes to the top apps! Click to learn more and register to participate and get a crack at the prize money!
