Tech Helpline and Form Simplicity are on the road again!
Each year, thousands of real estate agents and brokers who use Tech Helpline and Form Simplicity have the opportunity to meet some of the folks who make the magic happen for these two Florida Realtors owned products at local conventions and conferences. This year's schedule includes visits as far north and east as Nova Scotia, Canada, as far south as Hollywood, Florida, and as far west as Los Angeles, California. As real estate's number one tech support firm, Tech Helpline serves more than 600,000 real estate professionals in North America. Available through MLSs or local associations, as well as real estate brokerages, connecting with Tech Helpline is typically accomplished via a phone call, online chat or email inquiry. Our annual direct outreach gives agents and brokers, as well as MLS and association executives and staff members, an additional opportunity with face-to-face communications. Opportunities to connect This year, we kicked off our spring and summer schedule for Tech Helpline and Form Simplicity with an appearance at the REALTORS® Legislative Meetings & Trade Expo in mid-May. Tech Helpline was just represented at the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) Association Executives Seminar in early June, held in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Next up, Form Simplicity will be at "Rock the Market" at the Hard Rock Event Center in Hollywood, FL on June 25. The next two days on June 26 and 27, both Tech Helpline and Form Simplicity will be heading to the Florida Realtors Association Executives Education Workshops in Cocoa Beach, FL. August marks two major conventions for Tech Helpline and Form Simplicity. Association leadership from all business disciplines will convene at the ASAE Annual Meeting & Expo in Columbus, OH on August 10-13, followed by our own Florida Realtors Convention & Trade Expo (August 21 and 22) and Governance Meetings (August 23-25) in Orlando, FL. Tech Helpline will head to another big convention as the Colorado Association of REALTORS® hosts its "REfresh Expo" in Denver, CO on September 5. The summer tour schedule ends with two back-to-back events. The first one is in North Carolina, the NC REALTORS® 2019 Convention & Expo "Xchange'19" at the Pinehurst Resort during the Expo dates of September 14-16. That's followed by the Arkansas REALTOR® Annual Convention & Tradeshow being held in Memphis, TN at the Guesthouse at Graceland, during the Expo dates of September 16 and 17. More to come As the fall begins, Form Simplicity and Tech Helpline will be back at it, with appearances by Tech Helpline at the CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® Expo "REImagine!" held in Los Angeles on September 24-26, followed by opportunities to ask your questions about Form Simplicity and Tech Helpline at CMLS2019 in Salt Lake City on October 16-18. The last two conventions for Form Simplicity and Tech Helpline currently are scheduled for both the 2019 REALTORS® Conference & Expo in San Francisco this year (booth #1234), November 6-11, and finally December 9-12 at the 2019 Triple Play REALTOR® Convention & Trade Expo in Atlantic City, NJ, which brings together members from New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania Realtor associations. If you happen to be attending one of these events, please stop by and bring your questions about Form Simplicity and Tech Helpline. We hope to meet you face-to-face! Network, Brainstorm, and Energize the Last Half of 2018
Summer and fall offer agents an array of professional event opportunities The concept of "networking" to build a sphere of influence shouldn't be applied only to agents and prospective clients. Networking among other agents is a highly valuable way to gain industry insight, swap best practices, and learn what marketing tactics and technologies consumers are demanding. Throughout every year, the industry gathers at an array of professional events, some quaint and selective, others communal and celebratory. Whatever the tone, real estate conferences provide agents an outlet to share new ideas and recharge their approach to business. We've summarized here a number of diverse upcoming industry events to consider for your Summer/Fall 2018 calendar. Find one you like? Better register quickly, because the industry is changing by the day, and events like these help everyone keep a finger on the pulse.

Who Knew What the Realtor Could Do?
I guess that referring to realtor.com® as 'the Realtor' is probably not cool, but it makes for a catchy headline that will hopefully draw your attention to something that we think will be very helpful to all REALTORS®. Realtor.com® is hosting a conference for rockstar agents and brokers, and it's in Las Vegas September 19th and 20th at the Encore at Wynn Las Vegas. If you are looking for an excuse to head out to Vegas during the best time of year for weather to have some fun, learn to sell more property, and hang with other cool REALTORS® from across America – this is the tax deductible trip that you have been looking for. Check out the agenda on the website to learn about what they have in store. It looks like a really great conference. My take is that they are blending the sessions to be a little bit about learning from the executives at realtor.com® with a whole lot of learning from top agents and teams who are running their business around Top Producer®. Let's face it--running a successful business in real estate requires technology today. You absolutely must have a CRM, and Top Producer® CRM is a good one. But regardless of the CRM you use, learning how top agents and teams are leveraging these tools is the most valuable part. I am sure that there will be a heavy dose of promotion of realtor.com®, but even if you don't plan to advertise there, you will be able to understand the dozens of ways that you can leverage your listings and your profile on realtor.com® to produce lots of free leads. The site is not all pay to play – and only savvy agents know the secrets of winning without spending.

Following #ICSF: Day 1 at Inman Connect SF
Inman Connect kicked off today in San Francisco with a full schedule. Between all the talk about data, marketing to Millennials, and the Zillow PR machine, we took a moment to peruse the conference's Twitter hashtag, #ICSF, for the best tweets of the day. Consider them little glimpses into the excitement that is this year's Inman Connect SF.

Top 4 Real Estate Technologies Straight From Science Fiction
Times, they are a changin'—new and emerging technologies are changing the way agents and brokers do business, taking the entire industry into exciting and uncharted territory. Here's some of our favorite future tech we can't wait to get our hands on. Virtual Reality: VR has existed in some form since the early 80s, but we are finally reaching a point where the technology has the interest of the general public and big business. This seems impractical, but virtual reality devices could very well be the next massive thing. Earlier this year, social media titan Facebook purchased the leading company in VR technology, Oculus Rift for around $2 billion. It's use for real estate brokers is already in the pipeline. Imagine potential homebuyers and clients that can walk though all of your listings in the comfort of their own homes. No longer will agents and brokers be limited to their geographical area; out-of-state buyers can get an entire housing tour from thousands of miles away. If VR becomes mainstream, it could change the way agents show homes. Could the digital space take over the physical? Probably not completely, but it could be a way to get buyers excited or interested in a property.

#ICSF Day 1: Culture, Social Media, Leads, and More
The Inman Connect conference kicked off in San Francisco today. As always, the agenda was packed with choice sessions like "The Uberification of Real Estate" and "From Lead Generation to Client Generation" and far too many others to list here (see the full agenda here). The winners of the 2014 Innovator Awards were also announced today, with Ben Kinney taking home the Innovator of the Year honor. Other winners include the Houston Association of Realtors, realtor.com's AgentMatch app, Doorsteps Swipe, and more. And then there were the after-parties (including RE Technology's killer event at The Great American Music Hall). But we won't get into that. What we will get into is all the wonderful live updates coming from Twitter. As in previous years, we took to the social media platform to keep tabs on the event. Here are the best 140-character bits of real estate knowledge coming from #ICSF: *** Ingrid Menninga - Consistency is critical! You need a seller intake questionnaire, buyer intake questionnaire and ALWAYS get the same info! #systems #icsf Erik Poje - If you're going to invest in #SEO, go all out. As a navy seal friend of mine is fond of saying, "Moderation is for cowards" #ICSF Angela Raab - Don't be bitter about the competition, get better. #icsf

How to Be a Trade Show Pro
It's our favorite time of year again – trade show season! After a brief hiatus for the winter holidays, real estate industry conventions are back in full force. With Inman's Real Estate Connect just one week away – as well as a host of other awesome shows – we thought the timing might be exactly right for a post on how to become a trade show pro. Because booking your flight and hotel is only half the battle. Our dedicated sales and marketing teams travel to dozens of trade shows in the US and Canada each year. So we aren't exaggerating when we say we have oodles of experience when it comes to finding the best eats, making sure your feet don't hurt and scoring the best swag. Read on for four industry-insider tips on how to be a real estate trade show pro! Make Friends with Twitter Today's real estate conventions and trade shows make use of identifying hashtags to enable conversations on Twitter. Hashtags are used to mark a tweet as belonging to a specific conversation. For instance, the hashtag for Real Estate Connect is #ICNY. If you click here, you will see that attendees and speakers are already using that hashtag to talk about what they're going to see and do at the conference next week. Because Twitter happens in real time, using Twitter to find conversations about the trade show you're attending is a great way to stay ahead of the curve. You can learn which booths are giving away the best swag, find out what events are happening next and even discover great places to eat. If you're new to Twitter, check out our Twitter tips for real estate agents and get started today.

DO’s and DON’Ts of Networking Events for Agents
Do you ever attend regional or national real estate conferences? We do! Real estate conferences and conventions are great places to connect with other professionals and expand your sphere of influence. Whether you meet a fellow agent from a neighboring area with whom you can exchange referrals or a complimentary vendor you can partner with, networking is a great way to get more leads. Of course, meeting strangers at a professional event (or anywhere!) can be tricky. It's important to give the people you interact with the right impression and avoid social faux pas that might prevent you from doing business together in the future. How do you know what to say and what to do? To help you perfect your networking skills and maximize your opportunities, today we've compiled the eight DO's and DON'Ts of event networking for real estate agents and brokers. DO's Smile Is anything more intimidating than a stranger with a scowl? Invite conversation by smiling and making eye contact to let others know you are ready to interact. Avoid closed-off body language like tightly crossed arms or a downward gaze.

Inman Connect Day 1: Robots, IDX, and C.A.R. vs. dotloop
Real estate technology conference Inman Connect kicked off in San Francisco today. Conference attendees attended panels and talks on subjects ranging from robots and Google Glass to the worth of IDX. The most anticipated event of the day, however, was the on-stage debate between C.A.R's Joel Singer and Austin Allison of dotloop. The two went head-to-head in a discussion on the security and privacy issues behind C.A.R.'s recent refusal to license its forms to dotloop. We took to Twitter today to watch all the action unfold. It's our favorite way to monitor real time updates from the conference. Below, we've compiled a few of the day's best Tweets to keep our readers up to date, as well. Read on for some great 140-character nuggets of real estate wisdom. * * * KWStudioCity - Realtors benefits when C.A.R. ensures that their privacy and security is protected and respected, comments Joel on forms usage at #ICSF Laurie Weston Davis - It's not a choice if an agent wants oranges and you are force feeding apples CAR #icsf #choice Jack Miller - Separation of Content (forms) and code (software) allow user choice. Big Announcements Kick Off NAR Midyear Trade Expo
Day one of the National Association of REALTORS® Midyear Legislative Meetings & Trade Expo saw major news break in the real estate technology space. The biggest announcement of the day came this morning, when DocuSign announced its acquisition of transaction management platform Cartavi. Reactions to the deal were more delighted than surprised. The two companies have been partners for 16 months, with DocuSign providing eSignature capability to Cartavi users (see our recent webinar for more on how this works). That integration has proven so successful, that today's marriage of the two solutions seems inevitable in retrospect and, well, just right. Cartavi co-founder Glenn Shimkus said as much in a blog post earlier today. In it, he looks back to the early days of the partnership, where he previewed the integration for the first time at Inman Connect NY 2012: The reception for [the integration] was even better than what we had hoped. In fact, it was at that show that I met Krisstina Wise and Jack Miller from The GoodLife Team for the first time. [By the way, that one interaction led to The GoodLife Team becoming a customer of Cartavi and what has turned out to be an AMAZING partnership!]. I'll never forget Jack Miller's words after I showed him a demo of our integration with DocuSign. He said, and I quote "Wow. Amazing. DocuSign is going to buy you guys!" [Jack, you nailed that one!].

Want to Stand Out from the Crowd? Tell Your Story.
The word “storytelling” has a warm connotation. I love the craft of bringing people along on a journey. They inspire and enlighten. Even in business? Enlightening? Really? Sometimes it feels manipulative; sometimes it sounds like the teller is trying too much. But from the beginning of time humans have always told stories. Now stories bombard us through a number of recent media channels. The act of telling a story has changed, the story is more important than the telling. It’s called PR. Cathy Brooks, founder of Other Than That, head raconteur of Story Navigation and executive producter/host of Social Media Hour, presented at the WITI Women in Technology Summit on the concept of using storytelling through modern channels to build up your client base and promote your brand. She said, "The nature of storytelling has changed. It’s not about the what, it’s about the who. Business today is personal and social media platforms are making it more like this." We now tell people what we’re doing, when we’re doing it, where we’re connected, and who we are connected with. This is the game changing differentiater.

Skeptics of RPR Database Voice Worries
San Diego, California, www.inman.com -- Executives with a new subsidiary created by the National Association of Realtors® to build a national property database are facing some skeptics and critics as they hold briefings on the product at NAR's annual conference. The database is expected to eventually include records on every parcel in the U.S., residential and commercial, combining public property records with data from multiple listing services and commercial information exchanges (CIEs). MLS executives at the conference say they want additional assurances that it won't compete with services they offer. In addition, some NAR members -- particularly appraisers -- aren't happy that the project's business model relies on selling automated valuations to lenders and government agencies. Some skeptics at the conference have even referred to the Realtors® Property Resource database (RPR), as "Reaper" -- as in the Grim Reaper -- fearing its potential to harm their business. Because it will not include offers of cooperation and compensation and will only be accessible to NAR members, the database won't function as a national MLS, NAR says. Not all are ready to take NAR's word for it. "I have to say, that is a very fancy MLS you have there," Cameron Paine, Chief Executive Officer of Connecticut Multiple Listing Service, Inc., said jokingly after a demo of the new database for NAR members Saturday, one of more than a dozen presentations planned during the the annual conference. While NAR has been talking about creating a national property database for more than a year, some members were caught by surprise by the implications of last week's announcement that the Realtor® association had formed a subsidiary, Realtors® Property Resource LLC, and purchased technology and licensed data from LPS Real Estate Group, the operator of Cyberhomes.com.
