Writing For Your Real Estate Website

November 12 2013

lwolf writing real estate website contentYou have a company website – that's great! You've spent hours developing the content on your website, and you know it's awesome information that your current and potential customers will really benefit from reading.

But maybe you're finding that people aren't staying on your site long enough to dig through all of the information that you've written. What can you do to make sure that your content is keeping users on your website?

How do people access content on the web?

More and more people are using different devices to access the Internet. Mobile devices and tablets have given the users to access the Internet almost anywhere and at any time.

You may not be able to assume when, where or how your users are accessing your website, but there are some things in common with the majority of Internet users these days:

  • Users want to find information fast.
  • Users skim pages to find what they are looking for.
  • Because they can access the Internet anywhere, users are getting more distracted when browsing the web.

What can I do to make it easier for people to read my content?

When working with content, you want to make it easy for users to find and read relevant content. How can you do this?

  • Make it short and sweet. Keep your sentences short and break your content up into short paragraphs.
  • Use headlines and lists. These make it easier for users to skim your content and find relevant information.
  • Use a font that is easy to read. Tip: sans serif fonts (such as Helvetica, Verdana, or Arial) are often easiest to read for body copy displayed on the screen.
  • Make sure there is enough contrast between the text and the background. Whether it's due to monitor settings or due to visual impairments, low contrasting text is hard to read for some users.
  • Don't use images to display text. An image with text on it can't always be viewed clearly on all devices. (It is also not going to help you with your SEO, as search engines don't read the text that you've placed on the image.)

And most importantly, remember to edit your content to make sure you're getting across information in a clear and concise way.
