GDPR Compliance for Email Marketing
Sotheby’s International Realty is a company owned brokerage of Realogy’s NRT holding company. The firm uses Rezora for digital marketing and they have done an exquisite job of adopting GDPR – Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation. As you can plainly recognize from the name of the company which contains “international,” Sotheby’s International Realty is a brand that markets properties to people who live in the GDPR nations. Sotheby’s even translates currency into Euros and properties into multiple languages. These activities are the criteria that distinguish which businesses need to be GDPR compliant. Moreover, I am certain that the company regularly does transactions with European citizens who purchase homes here in America. If you are a brokerage that sells properties to Europeans, are a member of a sales network that takes referrals for Europeans, or markets property in Europe through a network that displays homes for sale on European websites in European currencies, you need to be GDPR compliant. Becoming GDPR Compliant is a process. There are two key prongs of becoming compliant. The first is notifying consumers that they have the right to be forgotten from all of your systems. The minimum fine is about $12 million and up to 4% of your revenue. That is a penalty that has teeth. Consumer privacy trolls are already actively looking for failures by American businesses to comply. But GDPR is part of a trend that is also finding its way into US laws. The California 2020 Privacy Act is pretty similar in protecting consumer privacy with the right of people to be forgotten. Brokers need to take consumer privacy seriously. Brokers need to have their copyright claims up to date, review terms of use, review privacy policy, and ensure that your technology vendors or in house technology teams are following MLS rules and regulations. These types of audits are not expensive; it's mostly an administrative task. Reesio Launches Integration with MailChimp, Including Drip Email Campaigns
SAN FRANCISCO, Jun. 26, 2015 — Reesio, the combined CRM and Transaction Management platform for real estate professionals, has launched several new CRM features this week. The new features include the following: An integration with the email marketing platform MailChimp, which allows users to connect their MailChimp account directly within Reesio. We use the number of times a feature has been requested to heavily determine what we focus on for our product roadmap. Drip email campaigns were requested 60% more often than the next most-requested feature, so it was obvious that we needed to launch this feature now." As to whether users need to pay for a MailChimp account on top of paying for a Reesio account, the answer is that users will only need a paid MailChimp account if they have more than 2,000 contacts, send out more than 12,000 emails per month, or want to use the drip email campaigns feature (if users want to send out regular email blasts, that doesn't require a paid account if the number of contacts/emails is below the above threshold). Given that Reesio just launched the most-requested feature that it's every seen from customers, one might think that Reesio would be holding off on releasing new features anytime soon. Not so said Thomas. "Unlike other companies who only release new features once a month or once a quarter, Reesio releases new features on a weekly basis, and we're constantly iterating on our product to make it better. We never get complacent, and now that we've launched this MailChimp integration, we're on to building the next thing that will add value for our customers." Regarding what comes next product-wise for Reesio, Thomas mentioned that they've been able to secure a large state Realtor association partnership, and that association will be licensing their forms directly to Reesio. Which means Reesio can integrate those Realtor forms directly into its product, and member brokers/agents will be able to fill out their forms right within Reesio. While Thomas declined to mention which association they'll be partnering with, he did say that the forms integration should launch in the next few months, "Relationships with Realtor associations and MLS' are paramount to us. We're making it a top priority here at Reesio to work with state associations to integrate their forms into Reesio and also potentially offer Reesio as a member benefit to associations and MLS' across the country."
