13 Tips to Get Better Client Video Testimonials

June 11 2014

13tips realbizOne of the most powerful ways to build your online reputation and build your digital brand is with client video testimonials. Having real clients speak openly and honestly about your skill and expertise lends itself to today's social trend in peer to peer recommendations. Video reaches out on an emotional level allowing potential home buyers to identify with the person giving the testimonial. If you are interested in using client testimonials are part of your digital marketing strategy, here are some tips to follow.

1. Always feature real clients.

2. Ensure viewers understand that the testimonial is from a real client. You can ask them to introduce themselves or add a small caption either of their name or initials, and city and state.

3. Time should be no longer than 60 seconds. Viewers have a short attention span and the goal is to make sure they see and hear the main points of the testimonial.

4. Choose a location that is comfortable for your clients. Inside their home or in the backyard as long as the location has the least noise interference (cars, air conditioner, etc.).

5. Shoot the footage at a slight angle so the subject is facing you and not looking directly at the camera. A tripod would make this task fairly straightforward.

6. Have your clients talk about the challenges you helped them overcome. Did your client have bad credit? Was there a challenge with the home inspection? Many agents are afraid to do this but if there was challenges don't hide them. When your clients talk about how you helped them overcome a challenge, it positions you as someone that can protect your prospect in their home buying or selling experience.

7. Coach your clients to give your prospects a call to action. If you have your prospects attention you should give them a call to action. Having real clients recommend you is better than you recommending yourself. It's one thing to say great things about yourself. It's something completely different to have someone else say amazing things about you. However, never make it sound like a sales pitch!

8. Try not to edit but don't let the testimonial get boring. The less you can edit a testimonial the more genuine it will feel to your prospects.

9. Lighting and overall quality are key. If you are not confident with your own videography skills, invest in someone who is. Film school students may be a great resource and may do your projects for you for free, to build their portfolios.

10. Prepare and get a release form signed by your client, allowing you to use the footage and content in your marketing, royalty free.
