3 Tips to Properly Position Yourself in Facebook's New Search Engine

January 22 2013

reachfactor graphsearchJust a few weeks ago, we speculated about when a Facebook search engine might arrive. Well it's here, kind of..

Facebook recently announced the launch of the first version of their personal search engine. Unlike Google that returns thousands, sometimes millions, of results for a search, Facebook aims to return the single best answer.

Why should you care? Because you're the best local real estate agent for the job, right?!

Facebook's new search engine is either a boon or a bust for agents and broker offices, depending on how they view social media. Many agents view social media as a kid's playground and have sworn off it. I've never really understood this sentiment because real estate agents are marketers after all, right?

Would you ever hire someone to market your product if they told you they were going to ignore the "mall" that 15% of the world's population visits and hock your product by yelling on the street corner instead? We can all debate about the best methods of Facebook marketing, but there's no doubt about its consumer reach.

With this search engine launch, Facebook's signaling a big push to make the world a little more intimate and personal. This is fantastic for those who're able to build a strong Facebook network.

Here are three tips from Facebook that real estate offices and agents can use to position themselves properly in Facebook's search engine:

1. The name, category, vanity URL, and information you share in the "About" section all help people find your business and should be shared on Facebook. Do it right.

2. If you have a location or a local place Page, update your address to make sure you can appear as a result when someone is searching for a specific location.

3. Focus on attracting the right fans to your Page and on giving your fans a reason to interact with your content on an ongoing basis.
