Last month, I shared a handful of tips, tools, and strategies for getting more ROI from content marketing as a real estate agent. It's a great article for anyone who has been regularly blogging and experimenting with content marketing, but it's not an ideal resource if you're just getting started. If you're new to content marketing and blogging, your biggest challenge will likely be coming up with new blog ideas every week.

When it comes to content marketing, consistency is key. It's really the only way you'll ever be able to build an audience, boost your reputation, and get any sort of ROI from your efforts. To be consistent, you have to publish content on a regular basis—daily, weekly, monthly, or whatever cadence is most realistic for you. When you choose to invest in content marketing, you have to go all in. You can't be inconsistent and you can't put blogging on the back burner when things get busy.

The easiest way to ensure that you're consistently blogging day after day, week after week, and month after month is to spend time regularly coming up with and storing more blog post ideas than you need.

For a lot of people, this is easier said than done. When you're new to content marketing, the idea of coming up with an endless amount of ideas for blog posts can be intimidating! The fact is, there's a lot of noise on the internet these days. You're not the only real estate agent who is creating and publishing content on a blog. There are thousands of people just like you developing content for the same type of audience you're going to be developing content for.

So where do you start?

Here are 40+ winning real estate blog ideas that can help you kick things off.

Think About Your Target Audience

At the end of the day, the purpose of content marketing isn't to show people that you can publish a blog post week after week—the purpose is to attract and nurture the right leads for your business. With that in mind, it's essential that you come up with ideas for blog posts that cater to your target audience. Here are 10 examples of blog posts you could write:

  • Write a blog post that helps first-time homebuyers understand the biggest mistakes and misconceptions about buying a home.
  • Write a blog post that helps young families understand how to research schools, neighborhoods, crime rates, and attractions when looking for the right home.
  • Write a blog post that helps empty nesters or retirees understand how to approach the idea of downsizing.
  • Write a blog post that offers homebuying tips to military families moving to a new community.
  • Write a blog post that helps people understand how to go about buying a lot and building a home.
  • Write a blog post for single parent families that offers tips and resources on how to approach home buying.
  • Write a blog post that offers tips for people who are interested in buying a home that they can sublease to another family member or renter.
  • Write a blog post about the differences between buying a home with a home association vs. buying a home without one.
  • Write a blog post for people who want to flip houses or buy foreclosures.
  • Write a blog post for people who are particularly interested in buying eco-friendly homes.

Think About Local

As I mentioned in my last blog post, you're not just in the business of selling homes, you're also in the business of selling a community and neighborhood. When you're trying to come up with more blog post ideas, think about what makes your community unique and attractive to potential homebuyers. Make an effort to illustrate to potential clients the value of moving to a particular neighborhood or region within a city. For example, here are 10 examples of blog posts you could write:

  • Write a blog post highlighting the top 20 attractions that people can find within your community.
  • Write a blog post recommending the top restaurants worth visiting in your city.
  • Write a blog post that lists the best events and festivals that come to your community and particular neighborhoods within your community each year.
  • Write a blog post that shares photos of the best parks, beaches, hiking trails, and other outdoor features within your community.
  • Write a blog post that helps people understand what your community is best known for. For example, it could be music, bicycle paths, hiking trails, farmer's markets, food, schools, etc.
  • Write a blog post that lists the best local shops, stores, and other hidden gems within your community.
  • Write a blog post that details the history and evolution of your community or a particular neighborhood within your community.
  • Write a blog post that features testimonials from other past clients about your community or city.
  • Write a blog post that lists the top industries and best places to work within your city or community.
  • Write a blog post that highlights the top 20 best reasons why someone should consider moving to a particular neighborhood within your community.

Think About Your Expertise and Personal Brand

To get more ROI from your content marketing efforts and differentiate from other local competitors, you have to go out of your way to help potential clients understand who you are and why yo do what you do. One of the easiest ways to do is to use blogging as an opportunity to share your individual expertise and strengthen your personal brand. Here are 10 examples of blog posts you could write:

  • Write a blog post that includes quick and helpful video tips from you. For example, you could create a video highlighting the top 3 mistakes most people make when negotiating during the homebuying process.
  • Write a blog post that shares testimonials, photos, and stories from past and current clients.
  • Write a blog post that positions you as an expert in a particular area, such as helping people find the right house to flip, or helping people understand how to identify the right foreclosure opportunity.
  • Write a blog post that shares your personal story. Tell potential clients why you became a real estate agent, what your interests are, what kind of client you love to help, and what you're passionate about. Help people understand who you are as a person.
  • Write a blog post that helps people understand how to stage their home for selling, tips for buying and replacing appliances, or any other niche topic that you love talking to clients about.
  • Write a blog post in which you share with readers your favorite restaurants, attractions, and neighborhoods within a community.
  • Write a blog post that helps people understand your process for helping people find the perfect home. Paint them a picture of what it would be like to work with you from start to finish.
  • Write a blog post that illustrates what a typical work day looks like for you. Give people a behind-the-scenes look at your business and help them understand what makes you different than other agents in your area.
  • Write a blog post that includes video of you giving a home tour. Help people start recognizing what you look like, sound like, and act like.
  • Write a blog post that includes photos of you visiting local businesses and interacting with local business owners.

Think About Industry Trends

In addition to helping people understand your skills and expertise areas, you should also be using your blog to show people that you understand and keep up with the latest industry trends. Homebuyers want to feel confident that they're working with someone who understands how the market fluctuates, what to look for when evaluating a home, and how to successfully navigate through the various processes involved with buying a home, like applying for a mortgage. Here are 5 examples of blog posts you could write:

  • Write a blog post about the various smart home technology you can look for and incorporate into your home.
  • Write a blog post whenever mortgage interest rates fluctuate.
  • Write a blog post that details the entire process of applying for a mortgage. Include as much information as possible.
  • Write a blog post about the convenient tools that people can use when buying or selling a home.
  • Write a blog post that helps sellers understand the most up-to-date demographics of homebuyers. For example, millennials recently surpassed baby boomers as the nation's largest living generation, and many are entering the homebuying market for the very first time.

Think About FAQs

It's important to remember that when someone decides they want to buy a home, they aren't necessarily looking for a real estate agent, they're looking for answers to their questions. Blogging provides you with the opportunity to position yourself as a resource for your future clients—someone who has all the answers. When you're trying to come up with new blog post ideas, consider coming up with ideas that address the questions you get asked most often by clients. For example, here are 8 examples of blog posts you could write:

  • Write a blog post that helps people understand everything they need to do in preparation for buying a home—the documents they need to gather, the savings they need to have, the requirements they need to compile, etc.
  • Write a blog post that helps people understand the different types of mortgages available to them.
  • Write a blog post that helps people understand what typically needs to happen after an initial offer is accepted on a home (home inspection, appraisal, loan approval, etc.).

  • Write a blog post that helps people understand the different types of homes they can purchase, like single-family homes, town homes, foreclosures, lots for building, etc.
  • Write a blog post that helps people understand and prepare for the various documents they'll need to sign at closing.
  • Write a blog post that helps people understand home association rules, where to locate city ordinances, and how to get permits when needed.
