4 Reasons Why Selling a House is Like Dating

February 13 2015

ss re like datingSelling a property is a lot like looking for a spouse – nobody is sold by just seeing a few pictures. How you present yourself matters. Real estate marketing takes time and effort. You want the first impression to be a good one because a lot of times, that's all people pay attention to – how they feel in the first few minutes.

You want to put your best foot forward – just like in dating. Highlight your best features and hook them. The good parts might then outweigh the bad if they are already falling in love. You want to look your best and make sure you are available.

How to put your best foot forward:

1. Pique someone's interest.

What are the best qualities of the house? You want to market those first and grab the buyers' attention. Highlight the most liked and endearing parts of the home that make buyers take a second look.

2. Go on more than one date.

It's a numbers game. The more at bat, the more likely you are to find "the one" – every once in a while finding love at first sight. So in showings, you want to try to get as many people as you can in to see the house. The key to that is good real estate marketing. You want your listing in as many places as possible. Look into online advertising such as social media and ads.

3. Don't play hard to get.

Have an easy to show listing – get your listing photos in as many places as possible. Also, make it easy for people to contact you. Things like showing appointment software, flyers, ads, and helpful signs make it easy for buyers to get to you.

4. Dating advice.

If it's not the right fit, you want feedback to get it right the next time. If no one is biting, you want to know why. Time to go to your buddies and get some dating advice.

In the end, you want to find the right fit. Make sure you aren't over exaggerating your good qualities. If you are doing all you can to put yourself out there and have a good strategy while you're at it, the right one will come along eventually.
