How to Make Your Own Emoticons

January 20 2015

p2 MakeEmoticonsHere's a fun tip for today's tech-savvy real estate professionals: you can make your own emoticons and use them in your text messages.

Making your own emoticons is a fun way to make your texts stand out and make your brand more memorable. All you need to do to get started is to download an app. Here are three great options:

Imoji

This free app for iPhone users lets you make your own emoji from any image, including photos you've taken. You can set your creations to public or private and then use them in text messages, on Facebook and Twitter. You can also search for and use fun ones created by other users. Here are some pro Imoji app tips to help you get going.

Facecon

This free app for Android users lets you create emoticons using your own face! Simply snap a selfie and use the simple tools to customize your emoji. Change your hair, background, all kinds of stuff. You can even create animated images that you can text or post to social media.

Bitmoji

This fun, free app for iPhone and Android users allows you to create your own avatar that is then turned into a variety of emoticons you can put into any text message, chat or status update. A convenient keyboard means you can easily access your custom emoticons when you're texting.

Of course, emoticons are an extremely casual form of communication and definitely aren't suited to all business conversations. Use your best judgement as to when they are appropriate. If in doubt, we recommending erring on the side of caution (check out our texting tips for real estate agents).

That said, we think texting a SOLD emoticon to a young, Millennial client would be quite endearing.

Fun custom emoticon ideas for agents:

  • A sold sign
  • A yard sign
  • Your trusty steed (aka your car)
  • Your smiling face
  • Your frowning face
  • Your company's logo
  • A house
  • Your office

Are you going to give this a try?! What real estate emoticons will you make?
