Why Video is a Powerful Tool for Real Estate Agents

January 29 2014

lwolf video powerful toolAre you a real estate agent/social media diehard? Do you refresh your Twitter-feed every couple of minutes on your smartphone? If yes, then no doubt you've seen countless blog postings and YouTube links extolling the virtues of video in contemporary culture. If you've skipped over these messages due to the overwhelming frequency with which they occur, then you may not understand why they appear so often in the first place.

Well, there's a good reason for their frequency: video gives you the power to connect with consumers and in turn has tremendous lead generation capabilities. And when used correctly, video can be a very powerful tool for real estate agents.

Let me show you how.

Take a look at this recent articlerecent article on Inman News. The article describes a unique listing video that an agent created for a farmhouse with a big property. In it, the owners' two dogs run around the property and also provide the narration, mentioning 'all this space' they have to play, and how they are miffed that the owners leave every day for work, but it is an 'easy commute' so they understand.

The video is a great example of the power of video. It's creative. It's fun. It's short. It's interesting. And it works. Hidden beneath the video's playful surface is all of the vital info and quintessential shots that an agent wants their potential clients to consume.

And that, in a nutshell, is the fundamental power of video. You can capture a consumer's attention and sell your product at the same time—without letting them know you are trying to do either. And the best part? Today's consumers are just like you, swiping away at their smartphones while enjoying their mid-morning coffee, constantly refreshing their Twitter feed in search of some potentially interesting info. And your listing video could be the next interesting thing they see!

But video alone will not close any deals. Take note that the agent hasn't sold the farmhouse yet. But also note the amount of views his listing video has garnered (700+). Yes, that's no 'Wrecking Ball'—but that's probably hundreds more than your average listing video has accumulated in months. Note the significant increase in leads. Note the national attention the agent and brokerage received. Sure, video won't sell your house for you. But when used correctly, video will generate more leads and in turn give you more opportunities to sell the house yourself.

In short, video is a very powerful tool because it brings you more leads and makes it easier for you to do what you do best: sell houses.
