How Smart is Your Online Branding?

December 05 2013

"Engage potential clients with the tool that they love to use," says real estate social media expert Marki Lemons-Ryhal. "So don't try to make them switch, don't try to make them think. Just be where they are."

That's just one of the tips for digitally branding yourself that Lemons-Rhyal offers agents. It's about working smarter, not harder. What are people searching for in your area? Begin by finding outfinding out and updating your online profiles to reflect those keywords.

She also suggests making sure URLs of your website domain and social media profiles are consistent. Agents can use a single tool like NameChk.comNameChk.com to see if their preferred URL is available, and on which sites.

Lemons-Rhyal was one expert selected to provide one-on-one training sessions to the winners of the 2013 HomeFinder.com Agent Makeover Sweepstakes. For more tips on branding from Lemons-Rhyal, read the transcript on the next page.

As real estate agent in today's real estate market, you might ask yourself, how can I work smarter rather than harder? First, you need to define your business. There are great tools like Google.com/TrendsGoogle.com/Trends that you can utilize to see what people are searching for. And then you want to go back and set up your online profiles to reflect those keywords.

A great example might be, I might search for "Chicago real estate." However, people might not look up "Chicago real estate." They might start searching for the term "Illinois real estate." With that in mind, I would go back and edit my profiles to reflect the keywords that people are searching for.

As a real estate agent, you might want to know, how can I engage clients? Well, with over 93% of all first-time home buyers coming to the internet first, one way to engage them is to have tools that they are looking for on the internet. Maybe they love to use Facebook. Do you have a Facebook business page? Maybe they love Twitter. Can you be found on Twitter?

So, you want to implement all of these great online tools to be able to engage potential clients with the tool that they love to use. So don't try to make them switch, don't try to make them think. Just be where they are. Engage them in today's real estate market.

How Do I Digitally Brand Myself?

What are three things you can do today to digitally brand yourself as an agent? Check to see if your name is available on all the different social media channels you would like to use. There's a simple tool called NameChk.comNameChk.com. This allows you to check to see if your name is available on all the different social networks and sites you might want to do.

You would want to have two browsers open. What that will allow you to do is go to a web domain or web hosting provider to see if that domain is also available.

In addition to that, you do not want to be a secret agent. That means that you want to talk about what it is that you do on all the social networking channels that you might decide to use in your business. So, it's all about branding yourself across all the different online tools that you will implement into your business.
