What are On-the-Go Homebuyers Searching For?

July 25 2013

This post comes to us from the HomeFinder.com blog:

homefinder onthegohomebuyersAre online house hunters conducting the same home searches on mobile devices/tablets as they are on desktops? HomeFinder.com explores the type of dwelling these digital home searchers want (based on HomeFinder.com search data for the month of June 2013). Read on to find out who is searching for your listings, and how you can apply these findings to your business.

Desktop home searchers are more often in the market for single family homes:

  • 72% of all HomeFinder.com single family home searches were made from desktops, vs. 67% of single family home searches were made from mobile devices (including tablets).

How can you apply this to your business? If the majority of your listings are single family homes, make sure your website has clear, concise text, a simple scrolling feature, and an easy search function. However, don't exclude mobile and tablet users; make sure your website doesn't have any Flash content (iOS devices do not support Flash), so mobile and tablet users can easily access your listings.

Mobile device home searchers are browsing more frequently online for condos and townhouses.

  • 33% of all HomeFinder.com condo and townhouse searches were made from mobile devices (including tablets) vs. 28% of condo and townhouse searches were made from desktops.

How can you apply this to your business? If you specialize in condos and townhouses, make sure your website is mobile optimized so interested buyers can easily access your listings on the go. Add mobile friendly HTML5 features, which provide useful tools such as geolocation. The users' Internet browsers will identify their location, making it easier for them to find your listings. Also, make it simple for mobile and tablet home hunters to reach you. Add click-to-call and click-to-email features to your website so potential buyers can reach you via their mobile device or tablet in one step.
