Video Traffic from QR Codes In Real Estate Marketing

February 14 2012

QR CodeI just attended a really outstanding real estate technology seminar this week where I was lucky enough to learn some new trends and tips from industry leaders, Max Pigman and Steve Pacinelli. Both speakers gave great presentations on different material but one of the most interesting and relatively underutilized ideas was QR codes. Yep, I thought QR codes for real estate had run the course too but when combined with video the QR code is a quick and very direct way to get in front of your audience, which is the homebuyer and seller.

The example that was discussed was simple, yet ingenious. Instead of driving the person who scans the QR code from their mobile phone to a static website, the person was driven directly to a video which is one of the most popular methods of receiving information on the Internet today, (YouTube is the 2nd largest search engine after Google). A personal video about you and your services is a great way to market yourself but think about the audience that is most likely to access this video from a mobile phone using a QR scanner. It’s going to be a younger generation and they are not interested in your designations, or if your suit costs thousands of dollars, they are interested in how tech savvy you, your real estate web visibility and how efficiently you can get their home sold or get them into the home they want.

Your presentation should not be about you, it should be about your knowledge of technology, marketing and research skills so they can easily see why you should be their listing agent or their buyer agent. Getting them to the video should take you a few steps down that path. Another way to use QR codes and video is to take them directly to a home tour. This is going to be particularly useful if they are standing outside of the home and could save you some precious time so you’re not wasting hours of driving to homes that don’t fit the buyer’s expectations.

Pictures are popular, but video has come a long way and with new technologies, it’s not as far out of budget as you may imagine. Max Pigman’s preferred method of tracking conversions can be found at goo.le. It’s useful to create a short URL there because it keeps a record of your stats so you can see how many people have made it to your preferred destination using the QR code; you can login via your Google Account and get started very easily. You will need to generate the QR code using a different service, I just used kaywa.com and put my shortened URL in there to generate the code above. I want to thank Max Pigman and Steve Pacinelli for putting together such an informative and useful presentation and would recommend visiting both of their blogs sites http://techsavvyagent.com/, http://maxpigman.com/. Thanks guys!
