February 03 2019

hdc 2019 taxes appsSometimes in real estate you have to learn to roll with the punches, but other times your success can be assured with a little advanced planning. For tax purposes, that means choosing a good expense-tracking strategy before the year is too far along. So, let's get ready to itemize with this list of popular, well-reviewed expense tracking apps!

Expensify

Expensify is a great expense tracking app for beginners because it's both easy to use and offers a free account. You can easily keep records of all your receipts by snapping pictures of them to upload or emailing them as PDFs. You can also link your credit and debit cards to Expensify to receive updated expense reports and track your mileage on the go.

Hurdlr

Hurdlr does it all. Link it to your accounts to automatically keep track of all your expenses, and then Hurdlr categorizes the expenses and creates deduction reports. The mileage tracker is easy to use with auto stop and start features linking to your phone's GPS. Hurdlr can also link to your Uber or Lyft app to keep updated records of your rideshares. Finally, with real-time tax estimates associated with the city and state you live in, you can view potential tax savings in the coming year.

MileIQ

MileIQ tracks your mileage through the use of your phone's GPS, so there's no need to manually input the distance driven. GPS tracking also works in the background, so you don't even have to open the app to track your trips. By swiping left or right on the home screen of the app, you choose between business or personal trips. Then MileIQ automatically calculates the value of your trips according to IRS standards and displays it on the app's home screen.

QuickBooks Self Employed

Created with a user-friendly interface, QuickBooks Self-Employed is both an app and web-based platform, and is a one-stop shop for tax and finance management. You can link it to your bank account or credit card to find business deductions, create automated tax reports, and auto-track the miles you drive. You can then sync with or send your reports and mileage to TurboTax for easy filing at the end of the year.

ShoeBoxed

  • iOS – 4.5☆

ShoeBoxed is one of the simplest apps you can own, but it makes saving digital copies of your receipts easy. All you have to do is snap a picture and your receipts get saved in the app. ShoeBoxed then sorts, categorizes, and archives all images. There is mileage tracking software that uses the addresses on your receipts to calculate distances based on your phone's GPS to create an "accurate" distance between locations. ShoeBoxed also offers prepaid envelopes that you can fill it with all your receipts if you would rather have a ShoeBoxed employee do the work of uploading your receipts for you.

It's too late to make tracking your 2018 expenses easy, but that doesn't mean you should throw in the towel on 2019. Choose an app you like and make filing your taxes for 2019 a cinch.
