Your Smart Device May Be Listening, But You Still Have the Power to Delete

January 16 2019

hdc smart device may be listening deleteThe newest technology trend revolves around the smart devices created by Amazon, Google, and other tech companies. These devices can help automate your life with phrases like "turn on the lights in the kitchen" or "turn down the temperature." These are the best assistants to be had. They remember everything.

But what if you don't want them to remember everything? There has to be a way to delete the memory off of these devices so they don't remember every question you ask them. We created this blog to help provide you with instructions for clearing the data on some of the most popular devices.

Amazon Alexa Devices

Here is a simple list for how you can erase the content from these devices for a fresh start. You can choose to delete some of the recordings you have made or you can do a full erase. Either way, we've got you covered.

There are two ways to erase your commands, questions, and orders. You can either go through the Alexa app or log on through your Amazon account.

To delete your recordings using the app, you have to manually delete each recording one by one. This will take some time. To do this, go to Menu, then Settings and then History. Once you get to the history section, you will need to tap Delete Voice Recordings. It's as easy as that, but keep in mind that you will need to do this one by one.

If you are ready to do a full sweep of your Alexa data, log on to your Amazon account from a computer. Once you have logged in, you will need to go to the Amazon Devices Page. Once there, click the ellipsis button (...) and then click Manage Voice Recordings and then click Delete. Once you do this, all of your voice recordings will be deleted from your Alexa devices.

***Warning! Once you have deleted your Alexa recordings, your Alexa may not remember some things, such as your favorite music or any important dates it memorized. You have to give it time to re-acclimate to your requests and favorites.

Google Assistant Devices

The Google Assistant devices are quite amazing as well. But, like the Alexa devices, they will remember everything that you have asked of them. Deleting your orders, commands, and personal information can be done in an effort to start fresh with these devices.

Similar to the Alexa, you can delete your recordings all at once or you can delete certain recordings one by one. To do this, you will need to login to your Google Account.

When you login to your Google Account, find the tab that says Data and Personalization, then go to the Activity Controls panel, click Voice and Audio Activity and finally click Manage Activity. From here, you will be able to manage all of your recordings. You can either delete each recording one by one or delete all recordings.

To delete each recording individually, you will need to click each individual recording and click More. Once you click this, a drop-down menu will appear and you will then click Delete. It's that simple.

To delete all of your recordings at once, you will need to do the same instructions, but you will need to filter the recordings by date. To do this, you have to click More, then Delete Activity By. Once you have click this, click Delete by Date then All Time. Next, click Delete and then Delete again. This will remove all recordings from your Google Assistant devices.

The smart devices mentioned in this article are incredibly useful for everyday life. Google and Amazon have created devices that seem to add more features every day.
