How RESO Helped a Tech Firm Find the 'Cool Kids,' Launch Instant IDX Websites

October 03 2018

Troy McCasland is the CEO of San Diego-based AgentSquared, a real estate tech firm that builds Instant IDX websites using RESO compliant Web APIs. Launched initially with FBS, the creators of Flexmls, AgentSquared is rapidly expanding, coming soon to both CoreLogic Trestle and Paragon through their API solutions.

For McCasland, one of the best values RESO offers comes from attending its conferences. "This is the best conference for me," he says in this video interview emphatically, explaining, "It's the only conference where decision-makers and key influencers are easily accessible." "There's nothing else out there that offers this kind of intimacy," he says.

"When you go to a big conference like NAR, you're kinda lost in this big sea of Realtors and brokers – probably thousands of people. RESO is where all the cool kids go."

McCasland discusses, as an application developer, how standards benefits him "and the industry at large," as it makes it easier to deliver products to the marketplace. For example, RESO standards, because of the Web API, allow AgentSquared to deliver Instant IDX websites to agents and brokers "while they are logged into the MLS system."

The API allows AgentSquared to import all the information they need to create a fully-baked broker website, customized with that broker's information – all the homes they've sold, their photos, contact info, all local listings, etc. – all with a click of a button while the broker is signed into the MLS system. Using an API allows AgentSquared to deliver a "beautiful, mobile-friendly website" in seconds, McCasland says.

"There's no way we could have built the Instant IDX website without the RESO Standard or the Web API," he added. "Otherwise you would be doing it the old school way," McCasland added, which includes faxing back and forth a bunch of forms, a process that can take hours if not days and, in some cases, weeks or even months to hand build a website.

RESO standards help McCasland build a product for brokers and agents that "is faster, better cheaper."
