It's Game On for Data Standards at RESO Denver Spring Tech Summit

March 14 2018

The mile-high City of Denver will play host to the RESO Spring Tech Summit set for downtown at the pop-themed Denver Curtis Hotel, April 24-26. We only have 10 registration slots left for full-conference attendees. That means you will need to move fast to take advantage of a packed agenda that features winners of the RESO Innovation Competition and a nearly full-day "deep learning" workshop.

And if you are registered but haven't reserved your guestroom with your own Pac Man machine or a Jimmy Buffett or Star Trek-themed-room at the Curtis, you may have to settle for another eclectic choice.

Interesting speakers and topics

Look at the line-up of speakers and topics, and you'll see why the Denver conference is destined to be another sellout. This year's Tech Summit features companies presenting case studies that will showcase their experiences in deploying RESO data standards.

These companies have improved their bottom line while enhancing the real estate industry. Real estate brokerages and software developers will hear firsthand what worked and what didn't as well as the bottom line: what implementing RESO data standards can do for your firm in precise, measurable dollars.

Case studies will cover:

  • The implementation of RESO's Organizational Unique ID (OUID) with representatives discussing the benefits to Homes.com, ShowingTime, and T3.
  • How TRIBUS migrated to the RESO Data Dictionary, which reinvigorated its IDX platform and underlying product.
  • A look at the real-world implementation of RESO's Universal Property Identification (UPI) by Austin brokerage Jovio.
  • A discussion on the real-world implementation of RESO Data Dictionary standards through different paths, including leaders of California Regional MLS (CRMLS) and New England Real Estate Network (NEREN).

RESO also will have more women on stage this year, including Katie Ragusa from TRIBUS, Lisa Stanley from OSCRE, Holly Trachovsky from BuildFax, Liz Tewksbury from NEREN MLS, and Laura Stukel from CMLS.

Innovation Competition winners

One of our biggest highlights will be presentations by the winners of the RESO Innovation Competition. We invited the tech community to bring innovative solutions for our industry, built on top of a standardized RESO data set. The Austin Board of REALTORS®, CoreLogic, and RESO provided the Development Reference Server. We are flying the winners to Denver to present their breakthrough ideas.

We had an incredible panel of judges for the competition, including Kyle Campbell of Hack Capital, Constance Freedman of Moderne Ventures, Stan Marin of Austin Board of REALTORS®, Mark Birschbach of Second Century Ventures/NAR, Adi Pavlovic of Keller Williams' Innovation Labs, Maria Seredina of Zillow Group, and Josh Lopour, who was the lead architect and host of this RESO event.

Get your Geek On

Some of the hot topics we are covering include "Exploring the Possibilities of Blockchain" featuring Lisa S. Stanley, CEO of OSCRE International, and "The Dark Side of AI, Machine Learning, and Neural Networks" by industry consultant Eric Byrn. Also, L.D. Salmanson, CEO, Cherre, Inc., will discuss how those who are still entrenched in legacy schemas and frameworks can get where they need to be in "From to Meandered to Standard – Adventures in Gradual RETS Adoption." A session also will reveal both the RESO Web API Open Source PHP Reference Client and W&R Studios Web API Ruby Gem Reference Client.

Deep Learning by Intel

Our last day, on Thursday, April 26, we go full geek. At the RESO Tech Summit, we are ending with a special event, which is also being offered as a standalone, separate ticketed workshop.

Intel Corporation's Sergey Ermolin will host a four-part workshop, "Diving Into Deep Learning," from 10 am to 2 pm. While this is included for those registered for the RESO Tech Summit, there is a limited number of one-day passes available for $99. Details are available at https://www.reso.org/diving-into-deep-learning.

A more intimate conference

If you have never been to a RESO conference before, you need to know they are different than the large-scale real estate conferences that are more commonplace. They are limited to 250 people in the spring.

Most importantly, they attract the industry's brightest tech minds, and it is a collaborative conference: it's a chance to interact with your peers, to ask questions, make suggestions and probe for solutions. It's a Tech Summit to attend to help your company and your industry. Attended by many key industry decision makers and influencers, you are exposed face-to-face to a genuine VIP crowd. RESO conferences give you a chance to make connections you probably can't make anywhere else.

A Working conference

Active RESO members don't miss RESO conferences because of the in-person Workgroup meetings. RESO Workgroups are the heart of the organization as data standards are created here.

The conferences give us a chance to have in-person Workgroup meetings, which otherwise are monthly conference calls. In Denver, the Workgroup meetings give us the opportunity for more in-depth discussions and for anyone to attend and share their feedback and ideas.

Any RESO member can join a Workgroup – and should – because this is your chance to influence the future of our industry. You can learn more about RESO Workgroups online here.

Sponsors make it better

Finally, one of the reasons RESO conferences sell out is because of the investments made by our sponsors: they help make it the most exceptional value among real estate conferences.

Major RESO Tech Summit Sponsors include Realtor.com, Auth0, CoreLogic, Zillow Group, ShowingTime, reColorado, RPR, dynaConnections, Flexmls created by FBS, CRS Data, Homes.com, and Lone Wolf.

Registration before April 11 is just $350 for RESO members and $450 for non-members. That includes three breakfasts and two lunches, as well as access to hosted receptions, with food and beverages, including one at a Colorado Rockies MLB game.

How to register

The mission of the Real Estate Standards Organization (RESO) is to create and promote the adoption and utilization of standards that drive efficiency throughout the real estate industry. If you want to be a part of this, there's no better place to start than at a RESO conference. Registration for the RESO Spring Tech Summit in Denver or more information is at https://www.reso.org/spring-mtg.

Jeremy Crawford is the CEO of Real Estate Standards Organization, or RESO, the organization responsible for the creation, promotion, adoption, and utilization of standards to drive efficiency throughout the real estate industry.
