September 01 2017

city in lightning storm 200pxDid you know that September is National Preparedness Month? With the nation still witnessing the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, "preparedness" is a topic that's sure to be on the minds of homeowners everywhere.

What can you do to help your contacts prepare themselves for the unexpected? In this week's Friday Freebie, we're highlighting an Emergency Preparedness checklist that you can share with your clients and prospects. Read on to learn more!

frifree hdc Emergency Preparedness KitWhile your area may not be prone to hurricanes like Texas and other Gulf Coast states, you surely face other threats like tornadoes, earthquakes, flooding, or wildfires. Help your friends, family, and clients plan ahead for natural disasters by building an emergency kit that they can rely on in times of need.

Homes.com's Emergency Preparedness Kit offers a list of documents and supplies that your contacts can put together to build their own emergency kit. This PDF checklist is brandable to you and is easy to share online or print out. It covers everything homeowners need in case of emergency--everything from food to first aid to property documents and beyond.

Want to help those in your sphere even more? In addition to sharing the checklist, consider extending your outreach all throughout National Preparedness Month. Post blogs and social media updates or touch on the subject in email newsletters. You can even call or email past clients directly to encourage them to check their insurance policies or create an emergency preparedness plan (then offer to send them the checklist to help them get started).

Here are a few topic ideas to jumpstart your outreach efforts:

  • What does your area need to be prepared for? Wildfires, earthquakes, flooding, hurricanes, winter weather, power outages? You can create individual posts on each threat.
  • How to create an emergency preparedness plan, including what to include in an emergency kit.
  • Special considerations, like preparing for an emergency when you have pets, children or elders to care for.
  • Advise consumers to double-check their home insurance policy to be sure they're properly covered.
  • To network within your community, consult your local police or fire department for preparedness tips
  • List local news sources or mobile apps that can alert residents to danger
