February Checklist: 4 Items Every Agent Should Complete

February 03 2016

February is that magical time of year when we scare a groundhog into telling us it will be spring soon and those of us in colder climes stare wistfully at pictures of beaches.

This is a short month, and you’ve got plenty of things to do and less days to accomplish them in. And since spring is on the horizon (depending on Punxsutawney Phil’s prognosis), you’ll want to be battening down the hatches and preparing for when the buyers and sellers come out in full force.

Here are some tasks to tackle this month to help you get ready:

Week of February 1: Print or reorder promotional materials

In last month’s checklist, we suggested you refresh your headshots and marketing materials. Now is the time to get them printed or order more if you’re running low. You want to have plenty on hand when the market heats up in the next few months. Consider stocking your car, briefcase, purse, and wallet with new business cards, so you’ll always have them at hand if you make a new connection. And it never hurts to update your social media profiles as well.

Week of February 8: Refresh your listing presentation

How does your listing presentation look? When was the last time you updated it? Now is an excellent time to revamp your presentation by switching up the look and the content. Add your most recent sales numbers, your success stories from last year, and perhaps some testimonials from happy sellers. Want some advice to help you crush a listing appointment? We have a blog post featuring three tips to help you rock that client meeting.

Week of February 15: Restock your winter wardrobe

Dressing professionally is a cornerstone of a Realtor’s job, and unfortunately that duty persists even in the most frigid of circumstances. Luckily, February is when the clothing stores start to put their winter stock on sale in preparation for the arrival of the spring styles. Now is an excellent time to scope out warm coats, boots, scarves, and more and still get an incredible deal. Remember, there still could be six more weeks of winter!

Week of February 22: Reach out to your contact lists

Of course, you should always be reaching out to your contacts with updates, sales tips, and neighborhood information. But now is an excellent time to take your typical communication level and turn it up to eleven. Since folks who plan on selling in the spring will list their homes soon, a direct mailer might be an excellent way to get their attention and bring new business to your doorway.

Reaching out via email is also recommended, especially since you can target both buyers and sellers. And if you have any contact info for leads that you’ve been procrastinating on following up with, contact them individually to check on their status. As the month ends, the real estate market will begin to rouse from its holiday hibernation. Make sure you’re ready!
