December Checklist: Four Tasks Every Real Estate Agent Should Complete

December 03 2015

decemberAgentChecklistThe temperature is dropping steadily, each night is lit up with ribbons and light, and you're frantically trying to cross off the last few items on your holiday shopping list. Welcome to December!

December can be a slow business month for real estate agents, despite how busy it may be on a personal level as you prepare for holiday celebrations. Put some of that professional downtime to good use by developing your business and industry savvy.

Week of December 7: Identify your personal strengths

What things do you truly excel at? Are you an excellent people-reader or a fabulous market analyst? Knowing the scope of your personal abilities can help you fine-tune your skill set, hone in on your specific real estate niche, and ultimately grow your business.

Take a few of your off days and read StrengthsFinder 2.0 by Tom RathStrengthsFinder 2.0 by Tom Rath. This #1 Wall Street Journal and BusinessWeek best-selling book features an extensive online quiz that will give you better insights into your talents and natural abilities. Once you've learned more deeply about what makes you fabulous, write up a few New Year's resolutions that will put those skills to good use.

Week of December 14: Listen to a real estate podcast

Don't have a ton of quiet time to escape with a book? Not to worry! You can still squeeze in some educational content while on the go. Podcasts are a great way to listen and learn more about your industry, marketing, sales, lead generation, and just about anything else you could want to know. And best of all, you can listen to them almost anywhere. Also, they're free and easy to download via a podcast app on your smartphone.

Want a few podcast recommendations? WaterCooler is a podcast featuring hosts Jimmy Mackin and Chris Smith, who has worked with HomeFinder.com on educational content for agents in the past. Agent CaffeineAgent Caffeine with Kelly Mitchell is another excellent option, especially for great social media advice.

Week of December 21: Subscribe to an industry blog or publication

You keep up with real estate news and trends on a regular basis, right? If not, you should definitely subscribe to a blog or magazine that details up-and-coming trends, new marketing tactics, new technology, and the like. You can follow our HomeFinder.com Pros Twitter account to get updates on all of our blog posts for agents.
