3 Innovative Ways to Get Followers/Fans

I recently googled “how to get facebook fans and twitter followers” and came up with literally hundreds of articles with ideas. Top 10, Top 25, 101 ways to get likes to your page! My head was spinning. After much deliberation, I have found that original content and strategically connecting that content with your networks are the true keys to gaining an audience that would care about what you have to say.

Buying likes for $5 bucks (facebook ads) and spending time and money on SEO opportunities are fine if you are national brand and are trying to reach anyone and everyone. But for small or local businesses, there is a particular audience that is the gold and all other superfluous “likes” won’t ever mean anything to your business. In that case, check out these ways:

Here are 3 new ways to grow your fan base:

1. The Roost bar feature from
Rather than just sharing a link, the Roost bar creates a “bar” above any article, blogpost, or website. This bar builds your brand by including a link to your Facebook fan page with your Page’s title, a “like” button which will allow the viewer to “like” the Page, and a “share” button which will allow the viewer to share the article/blogpost/website with their network (which will include again, the Roostbar).

A trick to Roost bar is its ability to connect your Tweets to your Facebook Page. Through Roost, your links out to Twitter will be branded with your Facebook Page, including a link to your Page, a “like” and a “share” button as well thus drawing any eyeballs from your tweets to your Facebook page.

2. TwiendsTwiends
I’m excited to test out Twiends! Twiends provides introductions to people looking for friends and followers. They use what they call “seeds” to create the incentive for people to check each other out. When you follow someone they give you seeds, and vica versa when they follow you. They are not a “get followers fast” site or a follower train, their aim is to find people who like the same thing and suggest complimentary pages.

3. Contests
Contests are still one of the most effective ways to grow your audience. Remember Facebook rules prohibit you to explicitly say “like our page to enter” but if your contest requires one to post their favorite photo on your wall as part of your contest, they will obviously have to “like” your page to do so if they have not done so already.

One example is a local florist giving away a free bouquet for Mother’s Day for the best post on “Why my Mother is the best!” What a great idea right?
