March Checklist: Four Tasks Every Real Estate Agent Should Complete

Now that the days are (finally) growing longer, we've compiled four tasks you need to complete this month. Check these items off your to-do list, to jumpstart your success in the upcoming season.

Begin open house prep

Open houses provide a unique opportunity to reach dozens of potential buyers at once. With the upcoming selling season, you may find yourself hosting several open houses a month. Invest in your business

That tax return check may be burning a hole in your pocket, but investing back into your business is a smart way to use that extra cash. If you don't want to invest the entire amount, try the 90/10 rule: ninety percent of the total gets invested back in your business and you can spend ten percent however you'd like.

Create an editorial calendar

Spring and summer are busy months in real estate, so blogging and social media might fall to the wayside. Outline your blog and social media strategy for the next few months, so you don't have to brainstorm topics and ideas when it comes time to post.

Also consider writing "evergreen" content – articles that are always relevant and never go out of date – so you can quickly post between showings and client meetings. Some good examples of evergreen content are "10 Things First-Time Buyers Need to Know" or "Five Questions to Ask When Applying for a Mortgage."

Enjoy the madness

March Madness is almost here, and the tournament provides a great opportunity for some friendly competition at the office. Incorporate philanthropy into your office-wide bracket competition by having the prize money go to the winner's local charity of choice. If you work in a large market, try to involve other brokerages in your challenge to up the ante and better support your local charity organizations.
