Outstanding summary articulated with great vision. People who discovered new lands have been called explorers and trail blazers. The Houston Association of REALTORS learned long ago that Agent Ratings and Performance were among the most coveted consumer requests %u2013 and HAR cut a path to delivery with Quality Certified %u2013 the first rating solution for real estate. Leading brokers like Prudential Fox and Roach and others followed the path, and delivered the consumer the transparency they desired.

Then came Yelp, Zillow, and Trulia %u2013 what I refer to ratings on the honor system %u2013 they are only as accurate as the person posting the rating. Despite the questionable accuracy of the honor system %u2013 consumers are eating it up. Even if somewhat flawed, in some small way, the consumer has a piece of an indicator. They know that some person was willing to raise their hand and rate the agent %u2013 honorable or not.

I would like to say that Associations have an opportunity. Perhaps supporting the time honored tradition of the REALTOR Code of Ethics, it is about time for agents to opt into performance measuring. Did you pay your dues and take the oath or did you just buy the REALTOR badge? REALTOR ratings would tell the truth, in all its pause and glory.

I have high hopes.
