With the kids out of school and no signs of inclement weather in sight, it’s no wonder that summer is the most popular time of year for families to move. Here are some tips to offer your clients as they prepare to move to a new home during the summer months. With some advance planning, they will be able to spend less time moving in and more time enjoying a cold drink in their new backyard!
1. Timing is everything. If possible, avoid moving during the last weekend of any month and definitely try to avoid the last weekend in July, which is the busiest moving weekend of the year.
2. Organized packing. Use copious amounts of bubble wrap and packing peanuts around fragile items like electronics and glassware. You can also use towels, clothing and pillows for supplementary protection. Also know that you can never have enough labels! Labels will make life much easier when it comes time to unpack. When packing up your things, it’s helpful to go through the home one room at a time, boxing up items, and labeling the boxes both according to room and box contents.
