What happed to the cell phone?
Cell phones are becoming less and less relevant for making calls. According to Marketing Charts 2011 Mobile Marketing Data, 21% of all mobile activity is texting. Using the web browser makes up about 17% of mobile activity. Email is used 16% of the time. And, way in last place, and telephone functionality is only used 8% of the time.
From there, the drop off is pretty smooth. Mapping is used 7% of the time; Facebook storms in at 6% of the time; and apps fall behind at 5% of the time.
