To understand where I am going with this, let me explain what Google's Knowledge Graph actually is.

Since they were created (at least going back to the mid 1990s), search engines have tried to match your search query words to words on web pages. When Alta Vista, early Yahoo, et al tried to do this, their systems were almost immediately--and easily--'gamed.'

Erik - super interesting stuff and thank for posting. Indeed I didn't even hear about this, and it's amazingly important. I think something that's going to need to be heard loud and clear is that those that come to your site are probably going to be able to rank you on their experience there. This makes perfect sense for incorporating the 1. Imagine that... ranking based on user ratings? That sounds pretty useful.

Hi Matthew,

I am so glad you found the first part of the post helpful. In the second part of the article I get into what agents can do today to prepare. One of the things I touch on is social which would include making sure your site has the 1 and "Like" button it. There is no doubt that Google will give preferential treatment to those that incorporated their 1 button. The more people use it, the more Google will look at this as a positive social signal. I believe part 2 is being posted in a bit so I would love to hear your feedback on that as well.

Thanks again,
Erik

While it is nice that Google is trying to improve their search results, their recent changes have made using Google very frustrating for me. I find myself turning to Yahoo and Bing because the results from Google are NOT helpful at all.
