Good tips for all of us! I would be sure to first ask your client if they are use text messaging regularly. If they don't avoid that form of communication completely. If they do and you're not a regular user of text messaging be sure to check your phone regularly or you may appear unresponsive to your client.

I have a client who uses texting almost exclusively. I don't like it because I like to have a hard copy of anything we have decided or in a conversation I usually repeat anything he tells me so that he hears what I understand to be his position on a subject. I have photocopied my text messages but I would prefer to use e-mail over all other forms of communication.

Texting is great, I try to copy and send texts to my emails, or lock them on my phone. But since I just had to do a factory reset I lost a lot of the ones I couldn't send. SMS is great for confirming appointments but I would not recommend substantive contacts related to a contract or negotiations.
