It's always exciting when a member of the development team sends me an email. The truth is, unless it's something really awesome, they simply don't have the time. Being outrageously busy is excellent quality control, I guess. So imagine my excitement when I received an emailed link from the leader of our dev team.

Where did the link lead? To a summary of browser statistics from W3Schools ( Where did that lead? To a lively discussion about the #1 browser we wish that you (yes, YOU) would never, ever – and I mean EVER – use. Internet Explorer.

But first, the stats. Here are the key findings from W3Schools:

I say anything BUT IE is good for me. I had to go back to it to test a program I was working on. I had forgotten how SLOW it is! Firefox and Chrome work at lightning speed - who's get extra time to wait for their browsers today?

I am stuck with IE on Paragon 5.

Suzy - Paragon 5 supports other browsers - go for it.

I had a long conversation about this last night. My friend pointed out a theme: don't use the browser that comes with your OS (IE for Windows and Safari for Mac)! Seems like those are the browsers with the most problems.

But I don't believe our MLS works on anything other than IE for now.

Whats your MLS Linda? The name of the MLS, and/or the system. We will get the answer for you.

Hi Emily,

Admittedly, IE is the worst browser available, and they simply ignore the rules. IE8 and IE9 are better, but they're not up to par. On many of the sites I create, IE is still the top browser, far and away... One site has 57% using IE, 17% using Safari, and 15% using Firefox. Another has 38% using IE and 37% using Firefox. I always design for IE7 first, then make the adjustments for Firefox. If possible, I'll make the site work in IE6, too. If your site breaks in IE, visitors will look for another site with similar info before they download a new browser. My guess is my newest site which is compatible with both browsers is closer to the new numbers of nearly equal amounts of users with IE and Firefox. The other site is much older and may be catching all the IE users who have become loyal because the site doesn't break in their browser.

Mid Florida Regional MLS is there a browser that would work on iPad?
